RECONSTRUCTION AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE: THE PROJECT OF THE NEW ACCUMOLI SCHOOL

The Scuola di Riscostruzione di Accumoli resides in a school building in prefabricated wooden construction, which was built after the 2016/17 earthquake series above the destroyed historic center on Accumoli in the provisional settlement.

This project was supported in the planning by lecturers from the University of La Sapienza in Rome and realized in record time. The working group consisted of around 40 lecturers from the Faculty of Architecture and the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering with interdisciplinary expertise: from architecture to structural planning, from building services engineering to material technology and safety equipment; all decisive factors for a building that should also play a strategic role in hypothetically future emergency situations.

The facility extends over a floor area of 700 square meters and is designed to be barrier-free. It includes three seminar rooms, a plenary hall, a dining room with kitchen and sanitary facilities.
Biological sustainability played an important role in the design of the building. A special focus was placed on the use of recyclable materials and on high energy efficiency (Nearly Zero Emission Buildings).
